The Internet has created a new dimension for the network marketing industry over the past few years. It enabled networkers to use websites and blogs to attract prospects to them rather than chasing after them.
Rejection was a big “killer” in the industry even when the Internet was not around. The fact is, most people hate to sell, and they especially hate to sell to family and friends and facing rejections after rejection and oftentimes ruining their relationship.
Now, marketing online or offline, generally breaks down in to two very broad methods: Interruption Marketing vs attraction marketing. Let’s take a look at the difference between the two and how a website could be the missing piece of the puzzle in attracting interested prospects into your sales funnel.
Interruption Marketing
The term interruption marketing describes the process to address opportunities in a hit and miss fashion to get them to check out an offer. It is particularly prevalent in the network marketing industry and is a major reason the industry has received a bad reputation over the years.
For example, the old ways of network marketing taught people to approach friends, family and anyone who would smog up a mirror if a mirror was placed under their nose (i.e. they are breathing). If you want to play the numbers game, you can take this approach and see how many will stick on the wall. The problem with this technique is that most people who you approach may not be looking for what you have to offer at all.
This leads to a continuous rejection (90 percent + rejection rate). It very often causes a newbie to leave or abandon their business. This is not a very professional technique especially when there are ways to avoid this kind of approach.
Attraction Marketing
The term attraction marketing means the prospect seeks the person who’s making the offer out. This means that you are no longer chasing anybody. People who are interested in what you have to offer start coming to you for more information. This leads to fewer rejections and makes any network marketer much happier.
Today, the Internet allows MLMers the chance to create an attraction marketing based website where they can provide resources for education and training, and opportunities for interested prospects to learn more about you, and in turn, a great opportunity for you to show your authority to the prospects in a chosen niche.
An attraction marketing based website can be a static site, a blog or any number of Web 2.0 properties which, once set up, work for people 24 / 7. The key here is, instead of approaching strangers (and/or friends and family members) hoping that they will be interested in a business opportunity, you put up a website on the internet where people basically go online to search for information. When done right, the prospect will be much more receptive to listening to your offer because they are the ones who initiated the information search (that means, they are targeted prospects).
In turn, this means less rejection, and with the right presell and followup, you’ll have more chances to sign someone in your company.
